Xenon high intensity discharge or HID for short is a completely different method of lighting up the road without using halogen style bulbs. The biggest difference in HID Lights is that they don’t  have a tungsten filament like conventional halogen bulbs in fact it doesn’t have a filament at all. The Hid bulb contains a gas called xenon and two electrodes which spark when power is applied this sparking causes the xenon gas to heat up and when this happens it gives of an intensely bright white light. This light is 3 to 5 times brighter than a halogen bulb and consumes considerably less power. This gives us two great reasons to switch to HID lighting with a Xenon Kit.

1 -  Safety: This is the biggest concern on our roads so anything at all which can improve safety must be good and taken advantage off. Every year thousands of deaths are recorded on our roads more than 70% of them occur during the hours of darkness and 80% of them on roads without street lighting. HID lighting allows us to both see further down the road and clearer with the light being very close to daylight. This also has the advantage of making night driving less stressful and tiring.

2 – Halogen and other bulbs have filaments which weaken and break in time necessitating the replacement of these items. Because HID lights don’t contain a filament they are not prone to this problem so its virtually unheard of to have to replace these bulbs. This is great news for everyone including motorcyclists who only have one headlight and are left with a sidelight if one bulb goes.
Another reason is it enhances the look of your car in the dark which is a good enough reason for many  people to custom there with HID lights which can come in tinted shades from some suppliers. The colour changes with the bulb temperature with  12000k Hid Lamps producing a purple light and 5000k Hid producing a white lightwith many people buying the 8000k Hid as it gives of a blue light.

Get HID lighting on your car how? Read on – Some cars already come supplied with HID lighting but these are few and usually only on top of the range models, when they come as an optional extra the price can be a crazy five to ten times what you could buy a conversion kit for. Today however a growing number of aftermarket suppliers are producing Hid Light Kits for every car. What is an aftermarket supplier some people ask ? These are manufacturers who provide parts and accessories but are not associated with the car manufacturers giving you better choice and lower prices than the car manufacturers branded items.

The purpose of the ballast is exactly the same as a starter in a fluorescent light it provides the correct power to spark the electrodes in the bulb.
